UHCL's The Signal - Following Huck Finn

Some great people from the Signal did a little video to accompany an article about the exhibition and the trip. The article should be out soon. So cool to get this press. Thank you all!

Back to Cairo, IL

Walker and I flew through a little town called Cairo, IL (KAY-ROW) and we both thought that it was a town revisiting. The Mississippi and Ohio rivers meet at this town and three states are accessible by bridge. The historic district of this little town is almost completely empty. The buildings are falling apart and most of them are up for public auction. I couldn't help but think how cool this town could be as a Marfa-esque artists colony. So many huge old buildings that would be perfect as artist studios. Anyway, Derek and I climbed around the ruins until the local cops caught up to us after Derek tried to get into a building that was actually still in use. We talked our way out of it and then went on our way.

The City Museum in St. Louis, MO is one of the coolest museums of any sort I've ever seen. It is basically a huge multi-story art installation / playground created by artist Bob Cassilly. So amazing.

St. Louis is a cool town. I don't know why I never here of it. It feels like a mix of Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Houston– it has some of the same architectural quirks as Pittsburgh and Baltimore – row houses and lots of brick, but at times it feels like the big city. I need to spend more time here.

If you look closely you'll see a Richard Serra in front of this building. First one I've ever seen in real life (that I know of.)

They throw rolls at you from across the room. You have to go there to understand.

NYC

So my brother flew up to NYC to do the drive home to Houston with me. We stayed a couple days in Manhattan, then helped Walker move to Williamsburg.
